Methodological basis

In this technical part of the guideline it should above all be expressed, which content and in which depth of detail must be processed. Thus should be ensured that although the audit should be carried out as simply as possible it must be in the required technical depth.

1. Screening

The so-called screening is the starting point for the audit of the ski area. This term actually refers to a sort of preliminary examination. The screening involves a first listing of important ski area data, which subsequently forms the basis for the audit.

The most important working steps and objectives of the screening are:

- Demarcation of the audit area

- Survey of all relevant ski area data

- Determination of the thematic and areal examination focus

2. Survey related to the subject of protection and utilization

The question of how much detail is to be applied in which survey, is a basic problem of any audit. A differentiation in the natural protective goods as for example ground, water and the different uses in the skiing area, but also agricultural and summer-tourist use is here a useful assistance.

The book " Auditing in skiing areas " offers in this chapter protective-good-related and use-related tables in which is shown in each case at first which professional place / authority could make available relevant data.

3. Structure of the geographical information system

Geographical information systems offer a multitude of areal analysis possibilities that may be applied within the framework of the screening and ecological study.

The employment of geographical information systems within the audit project is characterised by the following scope of work:

- Digital cartography

- Area-related analyses

- Ski area information system

GIS allows for an innovative presentation of data on the ski area and therefore also of the company, e.g. by using cartographic presentations, 3D views or simulated flights in the ski area.
